Introduction

One of the most unique treks in the Himachal region is the Hampta Pass trek. It offers the most contrasting vistas that are very shocking. When you reach the summit of Hampta Pass, a new universe begins to unfold before you.

One reaches the summit of the Hampta Pass from the Manali side and encounters the view on the other side, the in-your-face desolate environment of Lahaul & Spiti Valley, crossing over from the usual sights of the lush green Himalayan mammoths! It will take you a heated second to figure out what just transpired because of how captivating the drama is!

Of course, getting to the summit and crossing the Hampta Pass are amazing experiences. Few people get the chance to visit such sites. The mental and physical hurdles you face; the closest and most valued friendships with other adrenaline addicts that you form (a.k.a. friends for life). I’m starting to see what folks mean when they say, “I HAVE TO LEAVE because the mountains are calling! Because I can now empathize, the vacation will be amazing.

On the Hampta Pass Trek

Among the 200+ designated routes in Himachal Pradesh, the Hampta Pass Trek is one of the most famous treks. When compared to its competitors, the Hampta Pass Trek is unquestionably on the easier side. Therefore, even though experienced trekkers might not feel their jaws tighten and their blood pressure rise, it is undoubtedly an excellent approach for novices to get into the hiking mindset.

This is not to imply that experienced hikers won’t enjoy the walk; in fact, the sheer variety of the scenery will make the effort worthwhile. From glacial valleys to lush green meadows, the route has it all.

Location and Time

The 5- to 6-day Hampta Pass Trek begins in Manali, Himachal Pradesh. Amazing waterfalls, blooming flowers, and maple woods along the route of this lovely hike. It’s best suited for novices because it contains just the right amount of adventure. As a result, the Hampta Pass itself links Spiti Valley and Manali, often known as “The Middle Land.”

It is bordered by meadows and splendors on one side and Spiti’s unspoiled, desolate beauty on the other. People often cross from the Hampta Pass and move in the direction of Chandratal Lake. If the roads are accessible on the last day, you’ll also get the opportunity to view the magnificent Chandratal lake.

Acclimatization is not a major concern for the Hampta Pass Trek. It is usually advised to relax and proceed slowly so that you can take in the beauty of this journey, especially because you will be climbing to a height of 14000 feet.

The ideal time to walk up Hampta Pass

Even though this journey takes place from June to September, the optimum time to travel is from mid-June to September, excepting the rainy season. It is possible that the roads leading to Chandratal Lake won’t be open until the beginning of June.

Visits to the lake with the crescent moon form and the sky beaming over its surface are remarkable and shouldn’t be missed. Otherwise, you may still hike the Hampta Pass during this time.

where the base camp is located

About 30 kilometers from Manali, at Jobra, is where the Hampta Pass Trek begins. On this lovely trip, many hikers come to take in the scenery.

Conditions at Hampta Pass

The best time to go on the journey is during the summer or monsoon season when the weather in the Himalayas is like something out of a fairy tale. You will hopefully see snow in the area at the start of the season.

While rain should be expected on the Manali side beginning in the middle of July when the snow begins to melt. As far as we know, Spiti Valley doesn’t experience monsoons, therefore throughout this time, you may enjoy dazzling sunshine (as well as figurative rainbows, unicorns, and butterflies)!

The Hampta Pass Trek continues to have a maximum temperature range of 12 to 20 degrees Celsius and a low-temperature range of -6 to 4 degrees Celsius.

Having lived in the highlands and having traveled much in stunningly deteriorated locations (including the harshly cold winter months). I STRONGLY think that improving the weather will make people happier.

The natural propensity of the body (and the soul?) is to feel agitated when it is hot (like the weather in Delhi) and humid (like the weather in Mumbai). Everyone will appear to be pleased and joyful if the environment and weather are changed. How do you feel? Comment below!

Getting to Hampta Pass

Road access to Manali is good. It is around 310 kilometers from Chandigarh and 550 miles from Delhi. You can get to a certain point using trains and flights before you need to rely on the road system. You can quickly drive from Manali to Jobra, the starting point for the Hampta Pass hike.

By Air :

At Manali, there is no airport. The closest airport is 50 kilometers from Manali at Bhuntar. You may fly to Bhuntar and then rent a car or board a bus that goes straight to Manali.

via train :

There are no direct trains to Manali. You may, however, travel the Shatabdi to Chandigarh and then either rent a cab or take a bus to Manali. You must reserve a cab on your own from Manali to go to Jobra. The taxi runs between Rs 1500 and Rs 2000.

Via Road :

The best road-accessible approach to the base camp of the Hampta Pass trip is as follows:

Sonepat, Panipat, Karnal, Ambala, Rajpura, Sirhind, Fatehgarh Sahib, Ropar/Rupnagar, Kiratpur, Swarghat, Bilaspur, Sundarnagar, Mandi, Kullu, and Manali are the cities that make up this route.

Private Car/Self-Driving :

You would need to drive for 12 to 14 hours to reach the base camps of Hampta or Manali. However, pit stops are essential since there are SO MANY GOOD FOOD OPTIONS ON THE ROAD! What would a road trip be without tasty Dhaba food?

You have the choice of traveling in your car or selecting one of the modern self-drive alternatives offered in Chandigarh and Delhi. However, remember to account for the fact that you’ll be on a hike and won’t have access to a car for at least five days.

Therefore, using HPTDC Volvo buses to get to Manali and then finding another way to get to Jobra will be my best choice.
